Mechanism of Action
Xigris is a recombinant version of human Activated Protein C, which targets microvascular function by decreasing inflammation and coagulation and increasing fibrinolysis.
In addition to reducing microvascular injury, Xigris has been shown to work by improving microcirculatory perfusion.1*†
The specific mechanisms by which Xigris exerts its effect on survival in patients with severe sepsis are not completely understood.
*Data based on two in vivo (animal) studies.
†Study of 40 adult patients with severe sepsis.

Bleeding is the most common adverse reaction associated with Xigris therapy. Please see Important Safety Information and full Prescribing Information for Xigris.
