Clinical Indicators of Severity
These are clinical indicators to assess the disease severity for severe sepsis patients:
- Requiring a vasopressor after adequate fluid resuscitation
- 2 or more sepsis-induced organ dysfunctions
- APACHE II* ≥25

Population-based outcomes observed in severe sepsis patients

*APACHE (Acute Physiology And Chronic Health Evaluation).
†Based on the Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) score, low dose was defined as dopamine 6-15 mcg/kg/min, epinephrine ≤0.1 mcg/kg/min, or norepinephrine ≤0.1 mcg/kg/min. High dose was defined as dopamine >15 mcg/kg/min, epinephrine >0.1 mcg/kg/min, or norepinephrine >0.1 mcg/kg/min.
